Happy Anniversary! On Oct. 27, 1904, the first NYC subway train left City Hall. The MTA is celebrating by putting extra trains out of service, rerouting those that are operable and collecting overtime pay for hours not worked.

Aces up in Game 5. Rematch of Game 1 starters Gerrit Cole and Max Scherzer on Sunday. Cole, unhittable before the series, was reduced to a mere mortal after getting jumped by the Nationals for five runs over seven innings. Scherzer won Game 1. He was the beneficiary of some unforeseen run support but threw five solid innings at the Astros, who scored two runs early on. Considering our series bet was on Houston, we will root for a reversal of fortune and hope Cole turns the tables on Max. 20 units on the Astros.

The World Series is now a best-of-three after the Astros swatted the Nats, 8-1. Jose Urquidy (who?) shut out the Nationals for five innings to get the W. Alex Bregman had five RBIs, including a grand slam. Our four-game winning streak has whittled our debt down to -533 niekros.
