Oh, they’ll remember the WeirdO-pen. Maybe just not too fondly.

“They say it’s nice here in June. I just haven’t seen it yet,” Gentleman Jim Furyk said after finishing the U.S. Open at Bethpage yesterday tied for 33rd at 7-over.

Some players, not even of drinking age here, saw it all.

“When they were cheering my name on the 10th tee Sunday, I saw a guy on the right side of the tee box step away and throw up. Then he comes right back starts shouting again. That’s a loyal supporter,” said Northern Ireland’s 20-year-old Rory McIlroy, who tied for 10th at 2-over.

Others saw too much.

“I’m just ready to go home. Ready to leave,” said Kenny Perry, who finished 44th at 10-over. “It’s been a tough week. I’ll remember teeing off on the 10th tee all the time. Getting up at 4:30 a.m. every day. Playing 30-plus holes twice.”

“The shuttle rides, because there were so many of them. That set this tournament apart from any other,” said Stewart Cink (T27, 6-over). “It was a long week. I enjoy this golf course because I love it so much, but it wore on my mind and I didn’t handle it very well.”And the rain. The rain.

“I’ll remember the weather, and how nice it was,” said Sweden’s Henrik Stenson (9th, 1-over). “Not the greatest championship, given the conditions, but we got it done.”
