ZURICH, Switzerland — International soccer’s governing body FIFA has upheld bans handed out to executive committee members Amos Adamu and Reynald Temarii, Sky Sports reported Friday.

The pair had appealed against sanctions imposed following a Sunday (London) Times investigation into World Cup bidding.

Nigeria’s Adamu was handed a three-year suspension for corruption, while Temarii, who hails from Tahiti, was banned for one year after breaching FIFA rules.

Both hoped to see those penalties overturned, but FIFA’s appeals committee has stood its ground.

A FIFA statement read: “The FIFA Appeal Committee, under the chairmanship of judge Larry Mussenden [Bermuda], has confirmed the decisions taken by the ethics committee on 17 November 2010 regarding the bans on Reynald Temarii and Amos Adamu — who were at the time FIFA vice-president and FIFA executive committee member — for a breach of the FIFA code of ethics.”

Three former FIFA ethics committee members, Slim Aloulou, Amadou Diakite and Ahongalu Fusimalohi, had their suspensions reduced but the decisions upheld.
