Who knows when _ or if _ David Beckham will ever play another soccer game that actually counts. But it appears Goldenballs may at least get to pretend he’s playing, with actor Vinnie Jones planning a remake of cult classic Escape To Victory, and lining up Becks in the Bobby Moore role.

When Beckham first signed with the Galaxy, it was a foregone conclusion that he wanted to crack the U.S. market and break into Hollywood. Now with the help of Jones _ a 45-year-old ex-Wimbledon defender best known to U.S. audiences from his role in Snatch _ Becks might actually get that chance, according to The Sun.

Jones is hoping to hand Beckham a speaking role to bring in the U.S. audience, where the original 1981 flock flopped _ that is, until it became a cult classic. It included players like Moore and Pele alongside the likes of Ossie Ardiles, Russell Osman and Mike Summerbee. The Sun quoted a Hollywood source as saying “The original footballers’ acting skills were so wooden they wouldn’t have looked out of place in Ikea.”
