If Cindy Gonzalez’ history means anything, then watch out for UMass next season.

Gonzalez, a 5-foot-8 guard from Bergtraum, signed with Massachusetts yesterday. She averaged 18 points as a senior for the 28-1 Lady Blazers, who won their third straight PSAL crown this season.

“She was a tremendous player for us and a real key to our recent success,” said Bergtraum head coach Ed Grezinsky. “Without her, I really don’t know how we would have done.”

Bergtraum likely would have managed all right, but Gonzalez was the key to the Lady Blazers’ success. When she was on, they were unbeatable. When she wasn’t, they showed signs of vulnerability.

The highlight of her career came in the semifinals of this year’s state Federation tournament, when she scored 22 in Bergtraum’s stunning upset of Christ the King.
