The Blue Jays brass may want to check with their manager before they trade Roy Halladay to the Yankees or Red Sox.

Cito Gaston told the Toronto Globe & Mail that he doesn’t want Halladay dealt within the AL East.

“I know (GM) Alex (Anthopoulos) wants to certainly make sure that we get something in return for Doc and make sure Doc goes where he wants to go, too,” Gaston said. “I don’t hold anything against Doc. I’m a Doc fan, and I understand that he wants to go and get a ring probably as quick as A.J. [Burnett] did last year.

“I understand that, and I think he deserves to go somewhere and hopefully get that. Just not in our league. We don’t want to face him.”

The Blue Jays play each division team 19 times, so if he is traded to one of the AL East’s frontrunners, Toronto could expect to face him four or five times this season.

The Yankees and Red Sox are in the running for Halladay, but right now the Angels seem willing to part with the most talent to land the 32-year-old ace.

“Again, the goal with everything that we’re doing is to get as many core pieces as we can, as many long-term pieces as we can,” Anthopoulos told the paper.

The Phillies could trade top pitching prospect Kyle Drabek, but would need to clear the salaries of Joe Blanton and Jamie Moyer.
