The blunder referee who tossed out the United States’ potential game-winning goal last week has been tossed out himself. FIFA announced today that he won’t officiate another World Cup match anytime soon.

Mali-born Koman Coulibaly, who waved off midfielder Maurice Edu’s 85th-minute volley against Slovenia Friday night, was left off the list of refs for the next two days of matches.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw, rather than a 3-2 come-from-behind win for the United States that would’ve marked the biggest second-half World Cup rally ever, the first time any team had rallied from 2-0 in the second-half for a 3-2 victory.

A win likely would’ve seen the United States through to the knockout stage for the third time in five World Cups, but now they may need a victory Wednesday against Algeria to do so. They’ve never earned so much as a point in any of their group-stage finales, so a win will be easier said than done.

He has steadfastly refused comment, and FIFA officials has been just as tight-lipped about the blown call.

“We do not comment on referee decisions,” a spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal. Yahoo! Sports reported that Coulibaly got a poor rating from FIFA after his performance warranted an expedited review Saturday.
