Despite being buoyed by the Yankees’ dramatic 12-inning, 7-6 victory over the Twins last night, George Steinbrenner was not overconfident as he left the Stadium nearly an hour after Game 2.

“We haven’t won anything yet, gang,” Steinbrenner said to reporters last night after an Alex Rodriguez double tied the game and Hideki Matsui’s sacrifice fly won it to even the ALDS. “Nothing yet.”

A shaky performance by the Yankees’ bullpen nullified a solid outing by Jon Leiber and showed their vulnerability again, giving the Boss cause for concern. “We’ve got work to do,” he said.

Prior to the game, asked if he thought last night was a must-win for his team, Steinbrenner merely said, “We’re ready.”
