Don’t expect to find George Steinbrenner hosting celebrities, politicians and other big wigs in his Yankee Stadium luxury box this weekend when his World Champions take on the Mets in the three-game Subway Series.

“I have a prior commencement commitment,” said The Boss, who will attend South Florida’s graduation.

Since Steinbrenner isn’t a big fan of playing the Mets during the regular season, he doesn’t feel like he is missing anything.

“I am dead set against it,” The Boss said of interleague play. “It takes the focus away from where it belongs, and that’s on the pennant races. The real thing is to get to the World Series.”

And his team has won four of the six games against the Mets. Imagine if it were the other way around?

“The attendance is nice and the money is nice, but there are more important things,” Steinbrenner said. “Going from three to six games was a disservice.”
