Nazareth has emerged as the odds-on favorite to win the ‘B.’

Mike Megafu had 24 points and Samson Usilo added 14 points to lead Naz to a 63-49 win over Cathedral Prep in CHSAA Class B boys basketball Saturday in Queens.

Chris Herman added 10 points for Nazareth (10-6, 4-0 ‘B’), which owns wins over contenders Sacred Heart and St. Agnes. The Kingsmen will put their undefeated streak on the line next Saturday against defending ‘B’ champion Salesian. Cathedral is 7-12, 3-5.

CHSAA CLASS AA

Cardinal Hayes 68, St. Peter’s 47: Amadou Sidibe had 18 points and 15 rebounds, Shevar Newkirk scored 15 points, Jalen Jenkins had 12 points and Tyler Wilson added 11 for Hayes (15-1, 8-0 ‘AA’). Andrew Cannon and Jack Shanahan scored 12 points apiece for St. Peter’s (13-5, 4-2)

NON-LEAGUE

Boys & Girls 67, Wenonah (Ala.) 53: Joel Angus scored 16 points as Boys & Girls finished fifth in the Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic in New Orleans, La. by outscoring the out-of-state foe, 22-10, in the fourth quarter. The Kangaroos (15-3) rebounded nicely from an opening-round loss by winning their final two contests.

South Shore 72, Academy of the New Church (Pa.) 58: Terrence Samuel had 16 points, seven rebounds and seven assists and Wayne Martin and Ayodele Akinmola notched 12 points apiece for South Shore (15-6) in the 12th annual Kobe Bryant Play by Play Classic in Philadelphia, Pa.

South Shore 55, St. Mary’s Ryken (Md.) 43: Shamiek Sheppard had 14 points and Doudmy St. Hilaire added seven for South Shore in the Mountaineer Classic in Morgantown, W. Va., on Friday.
