The defending PSAL champions picked up its biggest win of the season and proved they could be a tough out come playoff time.
Matt Silverman scored three times for New Dorp in a 7-5 win over Midwood in PSAL Blue division boys lacrosse Monday on Staten Island. It was the second meeting between the two teams in a rematch of last year’s city title game won in overtime by the Cougars. Midwood was victorious 10-7 on April 4.
New Dorp trailed 4-2 in the third quarter, but finished the period with four goals of its own to take a 6-4 lead it wouldn’t relinquish. It evens the Cougars record at 4-4 and is their first win over one of the league’s elite teams this year. Midwood falls to 5-3 overall and into fourth place.
Benjamin Cardozo 5, Frederick Douglass Academy 2: Seungwoo Back scored three times and dished out an assist for Cardozo (6-2) in the PSAL Blue Division. Seve Barrameda and Jason Chen each added two goals. Brian Pollard had a score and two assists and James Wolfin made 14 saves. Frederick Douglass is 1-8.
Tottenville 12, James Madison 0: Jonathan Shapiro scored four goals for first-place Tottenville (7-2) in the PSAL Blue Division. James Nicholas added three goals. James Madison is 1-8.
NON-LEAGUE
Riverdale 11, Portledge 5: Neil Hamamoto and Mark Burgas each tallied four goals and an assist for Riverdale (7-3) in non-league. Zander Berlinski has a goal and four assists.
