NET NOTES
And on the 10th day, they’ll rest. And the ninth, the eighth, seventh, sixth . . .
By completing their second straight series sweep last night, eliminating the Pistons in four straight, the Nets can clean out the garage, or do the things that millionaires do in their spare time, because they have 10 – count ’em, 10 – days off before the start of the NBA Finals on Wednesday, June 4, in a Texas city to be determined.
“Five or six days is long enough,” said Byron Scott, who won his second conference title in his third season as a head coach. “Ten days is probably too much time. But it benefits you as far as rest is concerned and as far as preparation is concerned.
“But it’s a long layoff. The guys are never used to that because you’ve never experienced something like that in the regular season. You never get that many days of. It’s going to mess of your timing. It’s going to mess up, sometimes, your conditioning, if you let it. It’s going to have you rusty and a little sluggish and all of that stuff.”
* Jason Kidd on the possibility of wife Joumana joining Monday Night football: “That would be great. She has the ability. T.J. was born during a Monday night football game. She has the ability to do it so it might happen.” . . . Kidd on his turned ankle: “I twisted it and felt a shot of pain but once I could stand up, I knew I would be okay.”
* If the Nets do win the title, Richard Jefferson asked the question: “If you have a parade, where does it go to?” He was told the answer is: In the parking lot outside the arena. “In the parking lot? Only in Jersey. Only in Jersey.” . . . Scott expects to see the Spurs. He wasn’t saying who he would prefer, rather who he expects. And that forecast is strengthened by the injury to Dirk Nowitzki of Dallas. “I thought they were the better team,” Scott said of the Spurs. “I thought they would beat Dallas in six games and I still think that. I think San Antonio is like we are right now over here. They’re on a mission and they’re playing great. We’re on a mission and we’re playing great basketball also.”
