CANARSIE HAS CURTIS’ NUMBER
WHEN Canarsie reached the PSAL quarterfinals last year, the Chiefs were led by two key players, RB Earl Charles and LB Leon Williams. With both having graduated, head coach Mike Camardese had to find some replacements.
“I didn’t know good we were going to be,” Camardese said. “Those were two very good players to replace.”
And while neither Kendall Wilson nor Dennard Nimmons is quite as proven as their predecessors, they have been good enough to propel Canarsie to a 5-0 record heading into today’s game, when the Chiefs host Curtis at noon.
“Dennard did some really good things for us last season,” Camardese said. “But Kendall has done more than I thought he would.”
Not only was Wilson stuck behind Charles, he was also slowed by nagging shin splints. Now fully recovered, he has led the Chiefs’ ground attack. To stay undefeated, Wilson will have to play up to standards, since Curtis’ lone blemish was a loss to powerhouse Lehman.
Prediction: Canarsie 20, Curtis 12.
