CAN’T BLAME HACKETT
JET REPORT CARD
QUARTERBACKS: D
Brooks Bollinger (14-of-28, 149 yards, 65.9 rating) wasn’t given enough help, but he didn’t really provide a spark himself. He too often looked jittery in the pocket, though he looked more comfortable late and made some plays.
RUNNING BACKS: F
Curtis Martin (13-30 rushing, 3-15 re ceiving) again struggled for yards, as did Derrick Blaylock (2 for minus-2 rushing, 1-10 receiving). Overall, the Jets averaged 1.9 yards per carry.
WIDE RECEIVERS: F
Justin McCareins (3-59) had a key drop that could have changed the pace of the game. Laveranues Coles (1-16) never got into a flow.
TIGHT ENDS: D
Chris Baker had three catches for 29 yards and Doug Jolley had two for 15 yards but had a key drop. Run-blocking obviously wasn’t good.
OFFENSIVE LINE: F
Five sacks allowed, numerous hurries and 1.9 yards per carry is all you need to know about RT Jason Fabini, C Kevin Mawae, LG Pete Kendall, RG Brandon Moore and LT Adrian Jones.
DEFENSIVE LINE: C
DE John Abraham (five tackles) was close to wreaking some havoc, but he was called for two offsides penalties. DT Dewayne Robertson had a better game with six tackles.
LINEBACKERS: B
Jonathan Vilma led the way with 16 tackles, while Victor Hobson had 10 tackles and a fumble recovery return of 43 yards. Mark Brown had 12 tackles replacing the injured Eric Barton.
SECONDARY: C
Starting safeties Kerry Rhodes and Erik Coleman each had eight tackles. CB David Barrett did get hit on a couple of key passes.
SPECIAL TEAMS: C
Jerricho Cotchery was just OK on punt returns with an 8-yard average and Justin Miller was good on KORs with a 26-yard average.
KICKING GAME: C
P Ben Graham had a busy day, averaging 42.2 yards gross and only 31.6 yards net. K Mike Nugent had a 21-yard FG.
COACHING: C
An argument could be made that Herman Edwards and Mike Heimerdinger were too conservative with Bollinger at the outset. That speaks of their lack of confidence in what Bollinger can do.
