Chelsea was on the verge of finalizing a deal today for David Luiz after his current side Benfica reportedly accepted an offer.

The Portuguese club’s administrative council met late Monday and accepted one of Chelsea’s proposals — opting to take $34 million (€25 million) plus one of Chelsea’s young players valued at $6.8 million (€5 million). Benfica will reportedly take one of Slobodan Rajkovic, Nemanja Matic, Patrick van Aanholt or Fabio Borini.

A breakdown of the deal would see Benfica take €18.75 million, while its investment fund Benfica Stars would recoup €6.25 million.

Luiz’s former clubs Vitoria Bahia and Sao Paulo were set to gain €560,000 and €187,000, respectively, from their own clauses.

The Brazilian center-back will reportedly fly to London for his medical Tuesday, and Chelsea was thought to have already applied for his work permit.
