IRVING – Steve Christie’s expression, his countenance, the vibes he gave off were no giveaway. Perhaps that’s the secret to sticking around 15 years in a high-wire profession. Never let them see you sweat, or smile, or shrink.

It is not false drama to consider that Christie yesterday was kicking for his livelihood. Last week, the 36-year old signed by the Giants merely days prior to the season, missed all three of his field goal attempts in a 14-7 victory in Green Bay, including two misfires from inside 33 yards that failed to seal the game and particularly irked coach Tom Coughlin.

The veteran could not survive another dismal performance.

“You really can’t think about last week,” Christie said. “Obviously it wasn’t my greatest hour and you have to ome back and do your job.”

Because Christie did his job in Texas Stadium, he saved his job and the Giants completed their job. Christie was a perfect 4 of 4 on his field goals, hitting from 31 and 51 yards before halftime for all the Giants points and later hitting from 47 and 26 yards to sew up a 26-10 humbling of the Cowboys.

“I feel great, obviously, it’s a good win for us, to win one on the road down here is great,” Christie said, not revealing any outward show of satisfaction. “What else you want me to say? Obviously I’m quite happy.”

If the outcome had been different last week against the Packers, it’s almost definite that Christie would have been jettisoned for a fresh leg.

“I felt right after the game as disappointed as I was, we won the game, that gave me a different perspective on it, I believe,” Coughlin said. “We had a veteran kicker who’s been in that situation before and I just felt based on those things Steve ought to have another opportunity.”

In the final minute of the first half, Christie nailed a 51-yard field goal to pull the Giants within 10-6, starting a run of 23 straight points.
