Alex Gounaris went the distance, scattering seven hits and striking out 10 and went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBIS on a bases loaded double in the first inning to lead St. John’s Prep to a 13-2 win against Rice in a CHSAA Class A league game at Roberto Clemente Park Monday afternoon.
Jorge Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with two walks, two runs, two RBIs and three steals, Joe McDonald went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, an RBI and a steal and Paul Perez went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, an RBI and two steals for St. John’s Prep (5-1), while Rice fell to 6-2.
Regis 10, LaSalle 0: Tom Gorman went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, Sam Hauser had a double, two RBIs and two runs scored and Nick Picht pitched four scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out seven and walking one to earn the win for No. 10 Regis (7-6) Monday afternoon in lower Manhattan. LaSalle fell to 0-9.
Xaverian 13, Holy Cross 0: Pittsburgh-bound Elvin Soto was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, Alex Bautista was 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs and Anthony Pastrana tossed three shutout innings to lead No. 2 Xaverian (11-2) over Holy Cross (4-8) Monday afternoon at Preller Field.
St. Francis Prep 9, Bishop Ford 4: Chris Cannon blasted a two-run home run in the first inning, Steven Pelan, Steven Ellis, Danny Finn, Jordan Colflesh and John Mendez each drove in a run and Sam Gaitan took a one-hitter into the seventh, giving up two more hits and no earned runs, striking out three to lead St. Francis Prep (8-5) Monday afternoon at the Parade Grounds. Bishop Ford fell to 5-7.
Monsignor McClancy 9, St. Edmund Prep 1: Anthony Merchan went the distance, allowing one run on three hits, striking out five and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Jose Urena went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Monsignor McClancy (5-7) Monday afternoon. St. Edmund Prep fell to 4-8.
Fordham Prep 12, St. Peter’s 4: Zach Leone went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, Mike Seminario was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Alex O’Neill was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Jimmy McCormack allowed three earned runs, striking out six in five innings to earn the win for No. 8 Fordham Prep (8-4) Monday afternoon at Coffey Field. St. Peter’s falls to 2-10.
Iona Prep 11, Cardinal Spellman 4: Jimmy Foley, Justin Palladino and Sam Garito each drove in a pair of runs and Dan Fischer picked up the win, allowing three earned runs and striking out three for No. 6 Iona Prep (10-3) Saturday in New Rochelle, while Spellman fell to 4-8.
