Lyle McCombs rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries and had an 85-yard kickoff return and Nick Aimetti had a 52-yard interception return for a touchdown to lead undefeated St. Joseph by the Sea (6-0, 6-0 CHSFL ‘AAA’) to a 42-28 victory against Iona Prep Saturday afternoon in Huguenot.
Tyrae Woodson-Samuels was 35-of-48 for 310 yards and three touchdowns and Michael Dunkley had 12 catches for 127 yards and one touchdown to lead Iona Prep (2-5, 2-4).
“Lyle McCombs pretty much took over the game,” St. Joseph by the Sea coach Greg Manos said. “The defense played well. We had six fourth-down stops, which is big…I think Iona Prep is a solid football team and I’d hate to face them again the playoffs because of how much talent they have running around, but I know our kids came and played hard.”
St. John the Baptist 21, Christ the King 12: Sean Belsky was 6-of-10 for 107 yards and a touchdown, Michael Gangitano had an 85-yard kickoff return, Vincent Iacono rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on seven carries and Derrelle Hunter had 82 yards on 12 carries to lead St. John the Baptist (4-3, 4-2 CHSFL ‘AA-A’) Sunday in West Islip, L.I. Will Hunter had a 73-yard touchdown run and Terrel Hunt hit Ollie Robinson for a 17-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter for Christ the King (1-6, 1-5).
Chaminade 10, Monsignor Farrell 7: Without injured sophomore running back Michael Viegas, the Monsignor Farrell offense floundered Saturday afternoon and managed just seven points for a third consecutive week as the Lions’ losing streak is now three straight. The game was scoreless until the third quarter, when MarcAnthony Parrino punched the ball in from the 1-yard line. John Connelly added a 27-yard field goal for Chaminade (3-4, 2-4) and Charles Kamara scored the lone touchdown for Farrell (3-4, 2-4 CHSFL ‘AAA’) with a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter.
St. Peter’s 24, Bishop Ford 0: Dan Fischetti rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries, Gabe Ogbu had a 47-yard touchdown run, Ben Cosovic added a 28-yard field goal and John Woodford connected with Nick Moore for a 4-yard TD pass for St. Peter’s (3-3, 3-3 CHSFL ‘AA-A’) on homecoming Saturday. Bishop Ford fell to 2-5, 1-5.
Xavier 46, Cardinal Spellman 6: John Wilson rushed for 208 yards and three touchdowns on four carries, including a 71-yard burst on the first play of the game. He added touchdown runs of 46 and 79 yards. Jonny Clark rushed for 85 yards and a pair of scores and John Gearity and Chris Mattina added touchdown runs for Xavier (4-3, 4-2 CHSFL ‘AA-A’), which rushed for 501 yards as a team Saturday at Aviator Sports Complex. Cardinal Spellman fell to 0-6.
Poly Prep 23, Salisbury (Conn.) 18: Ashton Ghaffaar rushed for three touchdowns and Richie Carbone kicked a 30-yard field goal as Poly Prep (6-1) bounced back from its first loss of the season for an impressive road victory Saturday afternoon in Connecticut.
Riverdale 34, Dwight-Englewood (N.J.) 18: Austin Davis rushed for three touchdowns, Neil Hamamoto had one rushing score, Zander Berlinkski had a kick return for a touchdown and Zach Schwinder rushed for 115 yards to lead Riverdale (3-3) Saturday afternoon.
Moore Catholic 52, Henry Snyder (N.J) 0: Nick Imburgia rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries, JoJo Coughlin had a 31-yard touchdown run, Desean Nzegwu and Jospeh Marchese added TD runs and John DeNoble had a 45-yard kick return for a touchdown to lead the undefeated Mavericks (7-0) Saturday afternoon.
