Kevin Parrom is fine with the fact that he’s fully emerged as a third solid threat for St. Raymond’s after Darryl Bryant and Omari Lawrence, but that’s not the thing he’s most concerned about.

“I just want to win a city championship,” the junior said. “I want to keep going through the playoffs.”

The Ravens – and Parrom – are off to a blazing start. Behind his 17 points, they improved to 13-0, 5-0 in the CHSAA with a 79-69 victory over Holy Cross yesterday in the Bronx.

Parrom, though, is well aware that these wins won’t amount to much if they aren’t followed by success in March.

“They won’t mean anything,” said Parrom, who drilled several huge shots during the second half and also added four assists to Delroy Daley, who had 17, as well.

Parrom, who is being recruited by schools in the Big East, ACC and Atlantic 10, said he hoped to follow in the footsteps of Gavin Grant, who helped St. Raymond’s win a pair of titles before a stellar career at N.C . State, where he’s now a senior.

Parrom was solid from the outside and his teammate Lawrence played a key role in holding Holy Cross star Sylven Landesberg to onyl 10 second half points. The Virginia-bound Landesberg still had a game scoring 25 points, but he was bothered by foul trouble.

And while Parrom might have been somewhat of an unknown quantity until recently to some, colleges are already pushing for him and opposing coaches have been keeping an eye on him.

“This wasn’t a surprise at all,” said Holy Cross coach Paul Gilvary said Gilvary, whose team fell to 9-2, 1-1. “They are some team.”

The Ravens’ undefeated record will be put to the test again next when they host Rice on Saturday and then play St. Patrick’s (NJ) the next day at MSG, while six of Holy Cross’ 11 games have come against teams ranked in the Top 25.
