Cancer has done nothing to slow down the mesmerizing and contagious personality of Craig Sager.
The veteran sports reporter, a fixture on the NBA sidelines, took to the ESPYs stage to accept the Jim Valvano Award for Perseverance in the face of his third bout with leukemia. The 65-year-old wore one of his trademark flamboyant suits and delivered an even brighter message.
“I will never give up. I will never give in and I will continue to fight,” Sager said. “I will continue to suck the marrow out of life as life sucks the marrow out of me. I will live a life full of love and full of fun. It’s the only way I know how.”
Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar were among those from the sports community shown rapt and emotional during Sager’s speech.
