You can’t win if you can’t score. Right now, the Devils are learning that first-hand.
Tonight in Philadelphia, the Devils (8-7-1-2) will look to snap their four-game losing skid and five-game winless slump, a depression that’s traced primarily to offensive production. In short, there hasn’t been any.
New Jersey has managed just seven goals in its last five games, four of those coming in an overtime loss to Boston. The latest debacle was Sunday’s 2-0 shutout to Colorado.
The Flyers (10-6-3-0), meanwhile, are on a two-game winning streak, including Saturday’s 3-1 victory over the Devils at the Meadowlands in which Roman Cechmanek recorded 33 saves. Simon Gagne (9-9), Mark Recchi (7-11) and Jeremy Roenick (3-15) are all tied for Philly’s scoring lead with 18 points.
