Disgraced ex-University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore shockingly agreed to a plea deal, avoiding trial and more serious charges of home invasion and stalking.

The 39-year-old married father-of-three pleaded no contest to malicious use of a telecommunications device in context of a domestic relationship and one count of trespass.

The plea keeps Moore from going to trial and spares his mistress from testifying about the day she says he barged into her home with a knife, threatening to kill himself after their affair was exposed.

Moore could face up to six months in jail on the charge of malicious use of a telecommunications device, and 30 days for trespass — a far cry from the five years he was facing for the top count of home invasion. 

The exiled coach’s more serious charges of felony home invasion, misdemeanor stalking, and misdemeanor breaking and entering were dropped, according to the outlet. 

The ousted football coach spoke briefly during the short hearing on Friday as Judge Simpson asked if he understood the charges and the nature of a no-contest plea — also noting that the court treats a “no contest” plea as it would a “guilty” plea, the outlet reported.

Moore’s defense lawyer, Ellen Michaels, believed he was overcharged in the original complaint and said the dismissal of the more serious charges “validates the concerns we raised about the investigation from the very beginning.”

“From the beginning, we maintained that the felony of stalking charge and the entry without permission charge, all the charges against Mr. Moore, were not supported by facts and law,” she told reporters outside court, reported NBC News.

“Mr. Moore is pleased to put this behind him and move forward,” Michaels said.

The shocking plea comes after Moore was slapped with a slew of charges in December, after he stormed into the Ann Arbor apartment of his lover and ex-assistant, Paige Shriver, and threatened to kill himself, in the same hour he was booted from Michigan’s coveted head coach position, The Post previously reported.

The embattled coach ultimately threw away his $30 million career at the end of last year when his affair with his assistant came to light and he was consequently terminated with cause in December.

Moore engaged in a yearslong illicit affair with his 32-year-old subordinate — which was known as Michigan’s ‘worst kept secret’ — before she ultimately called it quits. 

Following the breakup, Moore bombarded Shiver with texts and phone calls for two days before she reported the alleged affair to Michigan’s athletics department, leading to his dismissal for what was described as an “inappropriate relationship” with a staffer. 

In the same hour that he was fired, Moore viciously barged into his ex-lover’s apartment and threatened to kill himself. He fled on foot and was later arrested at a nearby church.

Shiver called 911 and told dispatchers that he was “attacking her” and that he had “been stalking her for months,” The Post previously reported. 

Moore had a long history of domestic violence against Shiver, and “he was very dangerous,” according to previous reports. 

Prior to breaking into Shiver’s apartment, Moore’s long-term wife Kelli feared for Moore’s safety and called 911, telling dispatchers that her husband was “suicidal … for losing his job today,” according to dispatch audio. 

A frightened Kelli said she called the cops “because he said that to me … he said he’s trying to kill himself.”

Yesterday, The Post reported that Shiver’s contract with the Wolverines’ athletic department had expired and she was no longer employed at the Ann Arbor-based school, according to a department spokesperson.

The exiled coach is set to be sentenced on April 15.
