BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A University of Bridgeport women’s soccer player has been charged with assaulting a teammate in a drunken fit over what police say was a perceived snub at an awards ceremony.
The Connecticut Post reports Danielle Puddefoot is accused of head-butting teammate Hailey Marquis in a dorm room on April 30 following the team’s annual sports awards banquet.
Police say the 22-year-old senior from Slough, England, was very drunk and upset after not receiving an award — Nicola Worthington received the coach’s player award — when she confronted teammates at a post-banquet party.
Marquis, 18, was treated at a hospital for swelling on the right side of her face and two black eyes.
According to the Connecticut Post, after the headbutt, Puddefoot began slamming her own head in a wooden wardrobe, and shoved another player who tried to stop her. No wonder Puddefoot tweeted this the next morning:
