MAC DIARMIDA

Gulfstream Park, 9th race. Grade 2. Purse: $150,000. Mile-and-three-eighths, turf, 4-year-olds and up. Post: 5:14 p.m.

LOWDOWN: Summer Patriot looked like an up-and-coming turf star last summer for Barclay Tagg, winning a pair of marathons at Saratoga including the Johns Call. Rested for most of the winter, he stretches out making his second start back from a layoff after closing some late ground over this course vs. Kip Deville.

TV: HRTV, OTB Channel 71.

BAYOU HANDICAP

Fair Grounds, 9th race. Purse: $125,000. Mile-and-an-eighth, fillies and mares, 4-year-olds. Post: 5:25 p.m.

LOWDOWN: Nans Joy, who faced some good ones last summer in England, has been rounding to form in three starts for Bill Mott since coming to the U.S. The Irish-bred mare tries nine furlongs for the first time, but her running style and pedigree say the distance suits her well.

TV: HRTV, OTB Channel 71.

VALENTINE DANCER HANDICAP

Santa Anita, 9th race. Purse: $100,000. Mile, turf, California-bred fillies and mares. Post: 7:38 p.m.

LOWDOWN: Bel Air Sizzle didn’t show much in her past two starts, but she had excuses both times (soft turf, off slowly). Last summer she held her own vs. graded stakes company, and all three starts over the Santa Anita lawn last spring were strong. Garrett Gomez rides for the first time.

TV: HRTV, OTB Channel 71.

LAST WEEK: In the Tampa Bay Derby, Free Country was fourth as the 9-5 favorite. In the Hallandale at Gulfstream, Into My Soul was third as the 5-2 favorite. In the Santa Maria at Santa Anita, Visit was sixth as the 3-2 favorite.
