TOKYO – The wife of Jet coach Herman Edwards, Lia Edwards, received a scare yesterday when her flight from JFK to Tokyo had to make an emergency landing after a crew member found what appeared to be a weapon on board.

The crew member found what turned out to be a letter opener in a crew-only access area on the plane.

After the discovery, the crew announced to passengers that all food and beverage service would cease until further notice because there was some expected turbulence in the air.

“They did a great job of not alarming people on the plane,” Lia Edwards told The Post. “They said, ‘We’re experiencing mild turbulence, please don’t get out of your seats.’ “

Mrs. Edwards said she was told by a flight attendant after the landing that the pilots landed the plane on a runway closer to the terminal so they could evacuate the plane at Narita International Airport in Tokyo.
