The U.S. National Team’s Feb. 9 match in Cairo against the Egyptian National Team has been canceled, the U.S. Soccer Federation announced, due to the political unrest and current conditions in the country.

“We were excited about the opportunity to play against Egypt, but due to the current situation all parties agreed it was best to cancel the match,” U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati said. “We appreciate the efforts of the Egyptian Football Association and the U.S. State Department as we worked through this situation.”

After exploring other options, the U.S. has determined it will not play a match on this fixture date to replace the friendly against Egypt. That leaves the U.S.’ next friendlies in March. The first will be against two-time World Cup champion Argentina on March 26 at the New Meadowlands (ESPN2 and Univision, 7 p.m.). Then three days later, the U.S. will face Paraguay in Nashville, Tenn., at 7 p.m.
