Chances are, if you know the name of an Arena Football League player, it means you know too much about the Arena Football League.

That’s not the case with the new quarterback of the New Jersey Gladiators, who began training camp for their second season this week. In the midst of no-name players trying to become the next Kurt Warner is Glenn Foley.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the game,” said Foley, the 31-year-old former Jet signal-caller who has been out of the NFL since Seattle released him in August of 2000. “After the Seahawks let me go, I had had enough with the league and the game. I turned down opportunities with other teams.”

In January, he had his agent call Gladiators GM Chris Mara, who had planned to call Foley, a Cherry Hill, N.J., native, to try to generate interest in the team.

“We talked to Glenn about what would be expected of him and what the pay scale would be,” said Mara, who is son of Giants co-owner Wellington Mara.

With incentives, Foley will earn $80,000 this year. In the long run he’d love another shot at the NFL, preferably with the Jets or Giants.

“Should I go on to the next level, I’d like it to be in this stadium,” said Foley.
