Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva was handed a two-game ban for deceiving referee Manuel Gonzalez during last week’s game against Celtic after diving in the box to earn a penalty kick, UEFA announced on Tuesday.
The Croatian international was charged by the European soccer governing body after winning a controversial penalty in Arsenal’s Champions League playoff against Celtic last Wednesday in London.
Arsenal, who was leading 2-0 on aggregate at the time, went on to win the two-leg tie 5-1 and qualify into the Champions League group stages. The English club had won the first-leg match 2-0 at Glasgow.
UEFA said in a statement that Eduardo will miss games against Standard Liege and Olympiakos.
