“Part of me coming back last year, I have to admit now, was sticking it to (GM) Ted (Thompson),” Favre told SI’s Peter King,
Mission not accomplished.
Not only did Favre save his worst for last, costing the Jets a playoff spot, but Rodgers had a terrific season with the Packers. Green Bay, 6-10, did not have a great season, but the blame could not be placed on Rodgers.
Rodgers completed 341 of 536 passes for 4,038 yards, 28 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. More importantly for the Packers is that it looks like they have their quarterback of the future, but the same cannot be said about the Jets who took the one-year flier with Favre, who retired on Wednesday. Favre completed 343 of 522 passes for 3,472 yards, 22 touchdowns and 22 interceptions. Favre was particularly awful down the stretch when Gang Green lost four of their final five games.
“[The] most disappointing thing is, ‘We don’t want you play here and we don’t want you play certain teams,’ ” Favre said. “That made me mad. If not good enough play here let me play against you, if I’m not that good don’t worry about it. That’s what angered me.”
Unfortunately the joke was on the Jets and their fans. While the Packers have a solid future in place at QB, the Jets will now begin a search for their next quarterback – it just comes a year late.
