This news should make Jets fans feel good.
Peter King of SI.com, citing his Sirius Radio show, says, “Brett Favre is throwing the ball with the old zip, evidently.”
Neville Barr, coach at the Mississippi high school where Favre has been working out, told King and Bob Papa, “”He looks good. He said it was still a little uncomfortable, but I thought he threw the ball well. He had a lot of velocity and zip on it.”
King goes on to say that’s it’s only a matter of time before Favre, recovering from arm surgery, signs with the Vikings.
However, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, it won’t be this week. the paper’s Web site says, “It’s a safe bet that Favre won’t be officially joining the Vikings for the next eight days. … That’s because coach Brad Childress is departing on a fishing trip to Alaska this morning and isn’t scheduled to return until next Monday.”
This weekend, ProFootballTalk.com reported that Favre may have already signed with the Vikings.
The Web site talked to a source who would not confirm the rumor but, “I will not deny it either, I will leave it at that.” The ex-Jets quarterback confirmed mutual interest between himself and the Vikings in a recent interview on HBO’s “Joe Buck Live.”
“It makes perfect sense as far as coming back because it’s an offense I ran for 16 years. I can teach the offense,” Favre said.
It is possible the deal is done, but Minnesota has yet to submit it to the NFL. But even PFT isn’t exactly sold this is done, which you can tell by the rambling open to their post.
The other rumor PFT circulates is that Reebok has given the thumbs up to a No. 4 Vikings jersey.
Favre’s agent, James “Bus” Cook, denied the rumor in an e-mail to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. But Cook hasn’t confirmed anything throughout this entire process.
