SARATOGA SPRINGS – Last year’s champion sprinter Lost in the Fog has a mass in his spleen that doctors suspect is cancerous. A biopsy performed Tuesday at the UC-Davis veterinary school found the growth, described as “the size of a cantaloupe.” Surgery will likely be needed to save his life.

“We will do anything we can for the horse,” said trainer Greg Gilchrist. “It’s almost a Barbaro-type situation.”
