No commercials, no protests, but lots of golf. When USA Network broadcasts the Masters, Martha Burke won’t be part of the production.

For months, Burke, the head of National Organization for Women, has created a hurricane over Augusta National because the club allows no women members. Next week at this time, the story will surely be even larger, carried in every newspaper in the USA.

But it won’t be on USA.

“We are broadcasting the Masters,” USA spokesman Tom Caraccioli, “We are broadcasting the golf tournament, period.” CBS, which takes over the coverage Saturday, plans a similary sanitized approach unless something outrageous happens.

On TV, Tiger Woods and company will be the only story, not Burke and her protesters. The Rev. Jesse Jackson and his Rainbow Coalition are reportedly expected in Augusta. But TV plans on ignoring them, even though they are the reason the event will be commercial free.

What will be on USA is Woods’ attempt to win his record third straight Masters. It will be golf, golf and more golf, which means lots of Tiger.
