After nine games with the Seahawks, Leon Washington was named the team’s Ed Block Courage Award winner.

Washington, who was traded by the Jets after his 2009 season ended with a broken leg, leads the NFL in kickoff return average less than a year after surgery.

“It’s an award that individually was given to me, but it takes so many other people to help me get that award – from the training staff; obviously my wife, family and friends,” Washington told the team’s website. “So it’s a tremendous honor to receive, especially when you know your teammates voted on it.”

Washington was traded by the Jets on draft day after failing to get a long-term contract.
