LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A sizeable field of 11 has been set for tomorrow’s $500,000-added Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs.

Giant Oak, winner of the 2010 Clark Handicap, is set to carry the race’s top weight at 122 pounds and will break from post 10.

As the midwest’s only Grade 1 race on dirt for older horses, the Foster promises to be an important midseason test for North America’s richest race — the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic. This year’s Breeders’ Cup will be at Churchill Downs Nov. 4-5.

Trainer Al Stall Jr. used the Foster as a springboard for 2010 champion Blame en route to his win in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Stall and owner Adele Dilschneider have mapped a similar route for Apart, winner of the Schaefer.
