The Massey Ratings, adopted by the New York State Association of Independent School (NYSAIS) seeding committee this year, didn’t have any slip-ups in the winter after a controversial fall.
Ivy Prep League champion Collegiate, the four-time state Federation Class B champion, was selected first in Class B and powerful Rye Country Day is No. 1 in Class C. After a free pass upstate in previous years, defending state Federation Class A winner Long Island Lutheran will meet Albany Academy for the right to go to Albany.
Following Collegiate in ‘B’ is Fieldston at No. 2, Poly Prep is third, Riverdale fourth, Dalton fifth and New York City Athletic League champion Columbia Prep rounds out the six entrants. Collegiate and Fieldston receive byes into the semifinals.
In ‘C’ after Rye is ACIS regular-season champion Packer Collegiate at No. 2, St. Ann’s is third, Horace Mann of the Ivy Prep League fourth, Lawrence Woodmere from Long Island fifth and Trinity sixth. Trevor Day of the NYCAL and Portledge (L.I.) meet on Wednesday to determine the seventh seed while ISAL champ York Prep faces the ACIS’s Staten Island Academy for the eighth spot.
All matchups barring the championship games are at the higher seed. The quarterfinals are Thursday, semifinals Friday and the finals are all at Fieldston on Sunday, with the ‘C’ at 11 a.m., ‘B’ at 3 p.m. and ‘A’ at 5 p.m.
