The recruitment of Jason Fraser took a bizarre twist yesterday. Sources told The Post that the Amityville High School star might consider postponing his decision on which college to attend until after his senior season.

The 6-foot-9, 210-pound shot-blocking phenom still appears to favor Villanova over St. John’s, Louisville and North Carolina, but a delay could open the door wider for the latter three schools.

Today is the first day of the early signing period and Amityville coach Jack Agostino told The Post on Tuesday that Fraser had not reached a decision and no press conference was scheduled.

According to several sources, St. John’s was virtually out of the picture because Fraser’s mother, Edmaric, and his uncle, Paul, were put off by Red Storm coach Mike Jarvis. One of the sources said a major issue of contention was the rescheduling of Fraser’s visit to St. John’s.

Fraser was set to visit St. John’s on the weekend of Sept. 15. The terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 forced a postponement.

Jarvis rescheduled the visit for last weekend over the objections of Paul Fraser, who said he would be out of town on business. As a result, the St. John’s visit was the only one that Fraser went on without his mother and uncle.

He missed the first night of the visit, sources said, because of a minor family situation. It’s believed his mother did not want him to visit St. John’s.

If a press conference is called for next week, when Fraser’s uncle is back in town, it would not bode well for St. John’s. The Red Storm are scheduled to leave Monday for Alaska, where they will participate in the Great Alaska Shootout.
