The Red Bulls were supposed to be enjoying a weekend break before preparing for the MLS Eastern Conference finals. But centerbacks Ronald Zubar and Damien Perrinelle — both of whom are French — were left stunned by the terrorist attacks that rocked Paris on Friday.

Perrinelle and Zubar took to social media to express their emotions.

Perrinelle, sidelined with a torn ACL, is a native Parisian, born in the city’s western suburb of Suresnes. The 32-year-old wrote on Twitter: “I love My Country ! Vive la France ! LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ !”

Zubar, who came up through the youth ranks in Caen, just two hours from Paris, posted a photograph on Instagram of cupped hands forming a heart and the Eiffel Tower in the background. He included the caption “no words #panam #priere#fromgwanda to NY” and a picture of the French flag.
