JUNE 6, 1999 Mets 7 Yankees 2
AL LEITER, who was never a big supporter of fired pitching coach Bob Apodaca, contributed seven innings of one-run pitching as the Mets beat Roger Clemens to end an eight-game losing streak.
“I don’t want to get into it, but, of course, I thought about them,” Bobby Valentine said of his three coaches who were dismissed following a 6-3 loss the day before.
Clemens had an AL record 20-game win streak fractured when he was punished for seven runs and eight hits in 22/3 innings. The Mets scored four runs in the second and three in the third when Mike Piazza homered.
