Outside of a one-point win over Temple at home, Georgetown had done little to distinguish itself through its first six games of the season. That changed Tuesday night at the Garden, where the Hoyas knocked off Butler, 72-65.
Besides Georgetown as a whole, the biggest statement of the game was made by the Hoyas starting center, Greg Monroe. The sophomore, who could be among the first names called in the 2010 NBA Draft, had the kind of game that makes scouts drool. He scored 24 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and also blocked two shots. In addition, he helped Butler’s star big man, Matt Howard, foul out of the game.
If Georgetown can finish the week off with a win at Washington, they will have gone a long ways toward proving they belong in the conversation with the best teams in the Big East again, after a dismal 2008-09 season.
