Taylor Raccuglia’s absence has brought an emergence of others for Bishop Kearney.
The senior forward dislocated her shoulder in a loss to Bishop Ford last Wednesday and the team suffered two more league defeats to St. Francis Prep and Nazareth. This week the Tigers have rebounded with consecutive non-league wins.
Sam Retas lead the way with 24 points and 15 rebounds in a 53-45 win over visiting St. John Villa on Saturday. Marianne Hanning had her best game of the season with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and grabbed seven rebounds. Maureen O’Sullivan added six points for Kearney (5-8), which connected on nine 3-pointers.
The victory snaps the Bears five-game winning streak. Nicole Francomano scored 14 points and Jackie Diaz added 13 for Villa (6-6). Raccuglia, who is out at least another week, will get the results of her MRI Monday.
Staten Island Academy 64, Curtis 48: Junior Bethany Claps scored 16 points including the 1,000th of her career for SIA (11-3). Mayana LeGrande, a fellow member of the 1,000-point club, poured in 24 points and grabbed 25 boards. Casey Bray added 14 points and C.J. Bernieri had 10. Veronica Chea led Curtis (8-6) with 15 points.
St. Francis Prep 54, Kellenberg 45: Jenna Halaby had 14 points, six rebounds and six assists for St. Francis Prep (5-6). Shatira Hamlet tallied 10 points and seven assists, Meghan Erdman had 10 points and Katie Pulido added five points and 12 rebounds. Khadijah Donaldson led Kellenberg (6-6), which was up 24-23 at the half, with 17 points and Carly O’Boyle added 13.
Notre Dame Academy 52, Our Lady of Victory 37: Samantha LaForgia led Notre Dame (5-6) with 12 points in non-league. Ashley Iannacone, Nicole Bergtraum and Vanessa Gutzeit each added 10.

HD Woodson (D.C.) 51, Manhattan Center 35: Brea Castro-Gambrell led Manhattan Center with 10 points and Kiarah Dunlap added eight for Manhattan Center (6-10) at Bishop Ford. Jephany Brown had 21 points and Rahni Bell had 13 for Woodson (7-6). The Lady Rams trimmed a 31-19 halftime deficit to just 39-33 with 32 seconds left in the third quarter, but scored just two points in the final period.
Manhattan Village 47, Lehman 29: Senior forward Nubia Haynes scored 22 of her 25 points in the second half for Manhattan Village (9-3), which plays in the PSAL ‘B’ league, at Bishop Ford. Junior guard Grace Geist added 13 points. Melina Velez led Lehman (5-12), a Class AA squad, with 12 points and Jhane Figueroa added eight.

Shabazz 50, St. Peter’s 37: Christine Kline scored 14 points and Ashley Motrechuk had nine for St. Peter’s (8-4) at the Dan Fin Classic at the Jersey City Armory. Jamie O’Hare added nine points and helped the Eagles trail just 22-18 at halftime. Freshman Zaire O’Neil scored 10 of her 16 points in the second half for Shabazz (12-0), ranked No. 7 in the country by USA Today.

Moore Catholic 42, St. Anthony’s (NJ) 27: Taylor Baggs netted 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Moore Catholic (12-1), winners of eight straight at Holmdel (N.J.) HS. Christina Rubin had 12 points and Alex Salaycik added eight points and 10 rebounds. The Mavericks held St. Anthony’s scoreless for 12 minutes over the second and third quarters.
