On Tuesday, John F. Kennedy exorcised the demons from a poor performance at the Lady Patriot Invitational over the weekend against second-place Columbus. Friday marked another undoing of a poor performance in tournament play for the first-place Knights.
Sharon Ofori had six kills and Jessica Gonzalez had 10 assists to lead John F. Kennedy to a 25-22, 25-21 win against Bronx Science at Walton HS in PSAL Bronx A1 girls volleyball. The Wolverines knocked off the Knights in the quarterfinals of the Tottenville tournament last month.
It didn’t come easy, though. Kennedy (10-0) was down 18-12 in the first set and went on a 5-0 run when it was down, 22-20, to prevail. The Knights held a 19-13 advantage in the second set when Science (8-3) went on a 5-0 run of its own. The Wolverines, though, could never tie or gain the lead from there.
Juliana Kwan had four kills and four assists and Liza Park (ankle) returned as a defensive specialist for Science, which will compete in the Kennedy tournament on Sunday. The two teams will also play each other again next Friday in league play.
