MET NOTES

For today and Saturday, Tom Glavine’s plan is to be throwing a baseball.

Glavine, who had an angiogram on Monday, said yesterday he would play catch today and that his goal on Saturday is to throw a bullpen session.

Shooting to pitch next week, Glavine also said, “I don’t want to go on the DL. If I do, I for sure can’t pitch till next Friday if it’s retroactive.” Glavine thinks he can pitch earlier than that. He also wants to keep his no-DL-in-his-career mark intact.

Pedro Martinez, on the DL with a strained right calf, said yesterday he felt “good, like always.”

But Martinez still is wearing a boot on his right foot and said he’ll have to keep it on for another week. He removed the boot to play catch yesterday, and was optimistic about returning after his 15-day DL stint expires.

Another DL’ed Met starter, Brian Bannister, was at Shea yesterday to toss a bullpen session. He also may be pitching on Saturday instead of Glavine, as manager Willie Randolph said that the rookie righty was “an option.”

“As far as I know, I’m still just on the DL,” said Bannister, who is physically 100 percent after straining his right hamstring.

Ramon Castro had surgery yesterday for his left knee. Randolph said Castro could potentially return this year.

Julio Franco turned 48 yesterday but didn’t require a material gift.

“I got it already,” he joked. “I woke up.”

Easy guy to shop for, at least.

GM Omar Minaya and COO Jeff Wilpon gave Franco a cake before the game on the field.
