Off at 2-5 for Todd Pletcher after winning Go for Wand here opening weekend by 9½ lengths, Ashado sat second under John Velazquez tracking rapid pace set by Two Trail Sioux on daylight lead, went up after leader on far turn, never got there, quickly bottomed out to finish fifth in field of six fillies and mares going mile-and-quarter.

In co-feature, Grade 2, $250,000 Spinaway at seven furlongs for 2-year-old fillies, Pletcher’s Adieu, 7-1 with Velazquez up, made amends for finishing fourth Opening Day, pressing early pace set by 7-5 favorite Effectual, taking command top of stretch, digging in to hold off late run of Adirondack winner Folklore.
