ND RACE – Race was marred by breakdown of Bullet Buzz. When field was turning for home, Bullet Buzz broke down in left front. Aaron Gryder was thrown to ground and then stepped on near his kidney area by horse. Gryder was able to limp to ambulance. He took off fourth race but came back to ride fifth. Bullet Buzz was put down on track. Conman Cunningham surprised everyone by rating off pace. He made strong move on turn to reach contention and took the lead in stretch. Tom’s Thunder, who had saved ground early, angled outside in stretch and finished full of run. But he could not get up in time to defeat Conman Cunningham for victory.
RD RACE – The old man just keeps on running as 10-year-old Trucking Baron, making his 107th career start, closed well down center of track to gain victory at 15-1. River Usk stalked pace and then wanted to run when turning for home, but was stuck behind pacesetters and never threatened thereafter.
TH RACE – Yankee Gentleman was bet down to 1-5 for first start since winning career debut impressively at Gulfstream. But a couple of steps out of gate, Yankee Gentleman stumbled badly and Jerry Bailey fell off. Bailey was uninjured physically but his body language definitely showed frustration of what had happened in race. New York-bred Personable Pete pressed pacesetting Giaco and took over lead on far turn. He was joined on outside by Lord ofthe Thunder but when turning for home, Personable Pete had plenty left and drew off at 15-1 under Rudy Rodriguez.
TH RACE – The chalkplayers never got involved as Baseball Champion trailed throughout and put in good run in stretch, but had too much ground to make up and could only get up to catch tiring Once Rich. Griffinite stalked pace on outside and made move towards lead. He gained lead in midstretch and despite lugging in, was able to outlast For Love and Honor for victory. For Love and Honor had traffic problems on rail with Sing Me Back Home but once he got by that one finished with good energy for place.
TH RACE – Rarely in turf race at Aqueduct will speed run one-two around track, but we saw that happen here. Smart Grace stalked pacesetting Prime Queen and the two horses were on even terms at top of stretch. The two raced as tandem with Smart Grace edging away nearing wire to gain victory. The 14-1 winner over 7-1 second place combined for a light $148 exacta. Unbridled’s Pride rated off pace and made wide move on turn before finishing third.
TH RACE – Rich in Glory continued winning ways as he rated off pacesetting Max O Max, took over lead after straightening out in stretch and then drawing away to victory. Western Beau closed well and finished second despite bearing in slightly and bumping tiring Whitewaterspritzer.
