When Roger Clemens goes for career win No. 300 tomorrow, lots of family and friends will be among the sellout Stadium crowd.
Some 25 ex-teammates and between 50 and 55 family members are set to visit The Bronx to see history.
Even Clemens’ mother Bess, recently out of the hospital, is “on her way,” along with his three sisters, Clemens said.
There may even be some surprise guests, he said.
Asked whether that meant someone like Nolan Ryan, Clemens said, “I don’t know.”
Clemens won’t deny the pressure.
“They are showing up for a one-time deal,” he said. “So there is some heat on me there. I wish it was a situation where you play five innings and it counts, like Cal [Ripken’s] streak.”
Still, Clemens says he’s dealing with the pressure.
“I think the anxiety part’s over with because everybody’s in motion to get here,” he said.
The only potential hurdles to Clemens’ start – the bone bruise on his right hand and the possible rainouts this weekend – have been cleared. Clemens said, “I feel fine.”
