For trainer Tim Ritchey, best known as the trainer of 2005 Preakness and Belmont Stakes winner Afleet Alex, it was a successful return to the track of his biggest victory as I’m a Numbers Guy drew away in the stretch to win the $114,300 Bertram F. Bongard Stakes by seven lengths.

Bad Boy Rising was second with Solid Strike third. Ridden to victory by Stewart Elliott, I’m a Numbers Guy ran the seven furlongs in 1:24.41.

It didn’t matter that Bill Mott had multiple stakes-winning state-bred Chief Officer skip this race, as he sent out a more than capable backup in the $112,100 Joseph A Gimma. Win With a Wink came off the pace to win the Gimma by 23/4lengths over favored Laurentide Ice. Ridden to victory by Fernando Jara, Win With a Wink ran the seven furlongs in 1:25.54.
