Hofstra University is seriously exploring the possibility of leaving the Colonial Athletic Assn., and its first choice is to join the Atlantic 10, The Post has learned.

There are numerous stumbling blocks before such a move could be made, such as the fact that the Atlantic 10 already has 14 schools, including Fordham, but Hofstra is feeling more and more like the odd duck in the Southern-based CAA.

“It’s my job to always be evaluating our athletics program from everything on and off the field, including conference affiliation,” Hofstra athletic director Jack Hayes told The Post.

The move probably would affect all of Hofstra’s varsity sports.

“We have all the resources here at Hofstra to compete at the highest levels,” Hofstra basketball coach Tom Pecora told The Post.
