John Discepelo, an ex-Hofstra football player (you can look it up), will replace Curt Menefee as Fox-Channel 5’s lead sports anchor, beginning later this month.

Menefee will leave Channel 5 at the end of this week after 6½ years to devote his attention to play-by-play work, and will remain with the NFL on Fox. Weekend man Tom McDonald will anchor Channel 5’s sports until Discepelo arrives from the Fox affiliate in Dallas, which also was Menefee’s last residence prior to WNYW.

Ex-Met pitcher Ron Darling was briefly considered for Menefee’s position.
