Hondo posted a modest gain last night when he had the good splitter working as he hit with the Ti gers and missed with the Royals to put the number at an even-steven zero zernials.

Today, it’s a triple-dip delight, or so he hopes, with Bannister, Byrd and Webb – 10 units apiece on the Royals, Indians and D’backs.

Ex-Yank Mike Myers has been signed by the White Sox. They must have needed a lefty who can’t get out lefties (see last night’s one-batter debut against K.C.’s Ross Gload) . . . Dan Rather said he was sur prised that Katie Couric’s staff would stoop to trying to boost morale by dancing to Jacko’s “Thriller” at an office pep rally. Ever the taskmaster, Dan feels the time could have been better spent making up stories about Dubya.
