Al Rubenstein, a star player at the University of Cincinnati in the late 1940s, died on July 13 in Cedarhurst, L.I., after a prolonged illness. He was 80.

A Brooklyn native, Rubenstein played one year at Long Island University before serving in the Navy during World War II. After the war, Rubenstein transferred to Cincinnati, where he led the Bearcats to four straight Mid-American Conference titles from 1946-1950.

He is survived by his wife, Hannah, and son, Bruce.
